The 1000 In-Line Joint Closures are the preferred closure for all joints in the pressurised cable network including those on lead sheathed cables.

CLOSURE KIT CONTENTS:

  • Heat-shrinkable sleeve
  • Metal canister (2 halves)
  • Flexible channels & clip
  • Aluminium strips
  • Cleaning tissues
  • Abrasive strip
  • Aluminium foil
  • Valve nut & plug
  • Shield continuity wire & Installation Instruct.

BRANCH CABLES:
The kit is designed for 1 cable entry, each end. Branched joints (more than 1 cable at an end) require use of one additional branching kit (S.433/00299 or S.433/00300) per added cable. Up to 4 cables, each end may be accommodated.

LEAD SHEATH CABLES:

Lead sheath cables entering heat-shrink material must be prepared correctly. This involves:

  • Removing excess solder or scale from the sleeve bond-line area using a shave hook.
  • Cleaning the bonding area by using a Cleaning Pad supplied in the kit.
  • Fit a continuity wire across the joint opening – solder the wire to the lead sheath (resin core solder).

SCREEN CONTINUITY:
Use screen continuity wire, as supplied. Attach continuity clip to screen of MB sheath. With cables greater than 40mm dia. install 2nd continuity wire. Use type 3 kit, (S.433/00285) for 2nd continuity wire. For lead cables, clean lead sheath with shave hook. Protect joint with heat shield (S.513/00037). Strip approx.15mm insulation from end of continuity wire. Tin stripped wire & lead sheath. Solder wire to sheath using resin cored solder (S.004/00006).

CONNECTOR JOINTING:
Use standard connector jointing practises for In-Line Closures. Wrap completed joint bundle in 2 layers of craft paper (S.094/00002) – heat protection before installing canister.

INTERFACE JOINTS:
Use 1000 series closure for interface joints between Pressurised & Large Filled Cables. This allows cable pressurisation to protect the joint.
